I âme restoring a vintage 60’s Triumph motorcycle frame. Rear section is raw mild steel. Front section is original baked enamel. Will this work over both surfaces and will it hold up pretty well to chipping? I’m trying to avoid the cost of Powdercoating with is expensive and not very original but would like to know this paint will offer some hardened protection. I assume it should be used without a primer coat.

You can use with or without a primer on new milled steel. If the enamel paint on the front is glossy you should probably wipe down with a chemical deglosser or wet sand with 600 grit to improve adhesion. For the topcoat, I’d apply 2-3 light coats within 10 minutes of each other and then leave it to fully cure (72 hours).

Can this be used on a semi truck frame that is already painted a different color without the fear of flaking or peeling or should the original paint be removed?

As long as the paint you’re going over is free of dirt and grease and is oil based in nature, the big rig will stick to it permanently.
