It is just a primer. You will need a topcoat to provide maximum protection.

Question
Brian –
Can I use PBE Filler Primer on spot areas before painting a car? I have Upol 2253 High Build on most of the car and was going to use this as a touch up prime. I going to paint a Low VOC Acrylic Urethane over top of this and want to make sure there is no reaction to the top finish coat, being it looks like a Lacquer product.

Answer

If the acrylic urethane is water based, Iâm not certain it would be compatible with the primer. I would test it first on a piece of scrap, with the primer fully cured. If thereâs an adverse reaction, youâll see it right away.

There is no recoat window. Depending on how thick it was applied and the drying conditions, you can usually topcoat in an hour.

Question
Jamie –
Is this ok for aluminum and then sand in like 20. Then wipe clean for primer ” with in a hr” then paint ” 30 min after” then clear ” 30 min ” after. all using your guys enamels?

Answer
Seymour Paint –
It would probably work but is not ideal. If the aluminum is new, I would etch it first with an acid (muriatic acid, which can be found at any big box store) then follow with our PBE self-etching primer. If the aluminum is old, you can prime directly. After that, you can topcoat with any enamel of your choice.
