Question
Shane –
Is this coating a direct to metal product and will it rust due to the metal content ?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
The metal content is low relative to the other solids in the coating so no, it would not rust. Many customers use it direct to clean bare metal for refurbishing car parts and such.

Question
Bill –
Can I coat steel with this a get good adhesion or do I need a primer?
If so what primer and is this coating a direct to metal product. I coated a steel casting spindle back plate and it comes off easily with a Stanley blade.
The info on the can does not address need for primer or what can be coated.
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
You can apply the cast blast direct to clean, bare metal (many of our customers restore engine components like this). A primer would improve overall adhesion and rust prevention.

Question
George –
Is the Cast Blast iron UV resistant-
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
It is not, mostly because itâs a flat finish. We make a high gloss clear with a UV inhibitor (#16-121) that can be applied over the cast blast.

Question
Endre –
Is this paint withstand of gasoline? What do you recommend to use on air cooled engine cylinders ?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
No, cast blast is not gas resistant. That said, if you splash some gas on it by accident and wipe it up right away, it wonât harm the paint.

Question
Mike Nunes –
Two questions:
Does Cast blast come in different colors?
Does Cast blast come in different sheens for example gloss, semi gloss, matte
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Sorry, it only has a matte/flat finish. If you want a different metallic color, you could look at 16-50 bronze or 16-54 stainless steel.

Question
Steve Hartman –
Could this be used for an exhaust leak?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
No. It would not create a thick enough film and doesnât have the heat resistance either. Instead, they make special hi temp tapes to wrap the pipe and stop leaks.

Question
HANDELL PUERTAS –
can I paint over it?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Yes! We recommend top coating with Seymour’s 16-121 Clear.

Question
Steve Ariente –
You have to take Rust of first with rust remover right?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Yes. We also make a rust converting primer for light flash rust. The part number is 16-45.

Question
Joe Padula –
Hello, do you have a product that replicates cast aluminum and is heat resistant? Also do these products require primer for use on bare aluminum
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
CA16-55 is cast aluminum and has a 250F heat resistance. Iâd recommend 20-1681 self-etching light gray primer for bare aluminum.

Question
Mike Ryan –
Will this work on aluminum motorcycle engines
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Would recommend prime with the PBE self-etching primer first, but then you could apply the cast blast. For protection from gas and to give it a high gloss look you could topcoat with EN-70 clear engine coating.

Question
Bill Bratcher –
Will work to paint exhaust manifolds?
Will it withstand that heat?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Please contact our technical support as CAD color might not be available. Thinking this golden color might be more like the Tinted Ignition Sealer 620-1529.

Question
Rick S. –
Is a primer recommended before using this?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Seymour’s Cast Blast paint is a direct-to-metal paint, which means that a separate primer is not required for application. However, using a primer beforehand can potentially enhance adhesion and ensure a longer-lasting finish.
Ultimately, the decision to use a primer with our cast blast paint is up to you and depends on the specific requirements of your project. If you have any further questions or need assistance in choosing the right approach for your application, please feel free to reach out. We’re here to help! sales@seymourpaint.com

Aaron crespi –
Do you have this engine paint in a silver? Specifically as close to Honda Cloud Silver
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
We make #CA16-55 alumi blast. It replicates the appearance of new cast aluminum. Otherwise, #16-1034 FX chrome might be another option.

Question
Jim Rushing –
Will it hold up to a gasoline splash on a motorcycle gas tank?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
The CA16-48 does NOT have good gasoline resistance.

Question
Donald hand –
Can cast blast be used on aluminum engine?

Question
Aaron –
I am using Cast-Blast to repair some motorcycle side covers that were scratched. I buffed out the scratches but am uncertain on next steps. I I need to remove all of the paint before shooting with cast-blast? Should I use a primer to cover the paint and bare spots and if so what do you recommend? I did paint a test strip over an unserviceable piece with Cast-Blast and there does not appear to have any reaction. I wasn’t sure if there were any long term problems or not.
Thanks!
Aaron

Question

Can this paint be used on an air cooled motorcycle crank case?

Answer
Seymour Paint –
Yes. It has a 250F continuous heat resistance.

Question
Justin –
Do you primer first or just apply?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Many folks apply direct to metal IF the metal is clean and rust free. Otherwise, a primer over a prepped surface is always a good idea.

Question
Chad Scouten –
Will this adhere well to rigid plastics? Would a primer help.
Thanks!
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
A primer that is designed to adhere to plastic would be the better option. Alumi Blast is designed for metal surfaces, so it may not have the grip it needs to adhere to plastic. Alumi Blast will adhere to primers.

Question
John J. –
A comment below mentions using a primer but what temperature is a primer able to withstand? I think Seymour should’ve made this more heat tolerant like brake caliper paint (up to 500+ degrees) or engine paint (500°F or greater as ccx well).
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Our primers and topcoats withstand 250F continuous. If you read the fine print on the 500F paints, they can only withstand that temperature for short periods, whereas the constant heat resistance is the same as ours.
