Hi, I have an old-school, fiberglass Volkswagen dune buggy. I was thinking about spraying the body with this. What are your thoughts?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Flag for removal
Answer
Seymour Paint –
If there is existing paint on the body, then I would recommend scuffing it up with 400 grit to improve adhesion. If no paint, then scuff and apply the PBE sandable primer (#20-1671) before top coating. The Spruce brand would work well as the finish coat. Remember to keep a wet edge when spraying so you donât have areas where dry spray dulls the look.

You could paint their engine block with 16-54 Stainless Steel but this coating is not going to be gas and oil resistant. The other issue is that the engine block down by the manifolds is going to get hotter than the heat resistance of the coating itself.

If you are looking for an extra layer of protection, I would recommend our 20-6 Quiet Seal or our 20-41 Spray on Truck Bed liner. Both products provide a durable coating that forms a long-lasting protective layer that is both tough and flexible. If you like the stainless appearance, I suggest our Stainless Steel, 16-54, which will provide maximum corrosion protection against rust, weather, sunlight, oil and water.
