Question
Mark Massie –
what primer should be used and does it need a UV clear for outdoors?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
Yes, I would use our 16-831 light gray primer. Clear coating is tricky. You can use the 16-821, but make sure to apply VERY LIGHT coats at first before applying a proper coat or two. If you put too much on the gold, it will diminish the bright leafing look.

Terri Laing –
Hi. What is the prep needed to do on a dark stained wood piece of furniture before spraying your white lacquer?

Answer
Seymour Paint –
Hi there, just a light sanding with steel wool or sandpaper to improve adhesion. You should probably wipe down with a degreaser as well to remove any oils that might be on the surface from skin touching it.

Question
Michael Edmonson –
Looking at your Hi-Tech General Purpose Semi-Gloss Black Lacquer paint. How will this hold up under a consistent flow of unleaded gasoline? Any suggestions?
(0) (0)
Answer
Seymour Paint –
It will not resist continuous flow of gasoline. For that you would likely need a two-component epoxy or urethane which we donât make.

Wipe the aluminum down with acid or vinegar and then prime with the 20-1681 self-etch primer. Use the 620-1433 flat black for the best finish.
