Does this product need a primer to be given first? thank you
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Flag for removal
Answer

You may apply our engine enamels with and without primer. If you choose not to use a primer, itâs important that the surface be clean bare metal. We recommend one very light coat followed by a second (and maybe a third) regular coat at 10 minute intervals. Give it 3-7 days to fully cure before returning to service.

What do you recommend cleaning my surface with for the absolute best results before spraying? Any recommendations?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Flag for removal
Answer

Depends on the substrate.
For steel – The best thing to do is to remove any rust using a wire brush and/or sandpaper. Wipe down the steel with some solvent to remove the dust, oil, and contaminants. Apply the paint.
For aluminum or plastic â sand the surface with sandpaper and then wipe down the surface with solvent to remove any dust, oil, and contaminants. Apply the paint.

How is being good to 300 F actually good enough when engine blocks get MUCH hotter than that?

Answer

Blocks generally donât get that hot. Anyway, weâve been selling this paint for decadesâ¦if it couldnât take the heat from a block we wouldâve heard about it long ago. Certainly, the exhaust manifold will get hotter, and for that we offer a 1200f high temp paint in silver (#16-1201).
