With aluminum you have to use an etching primer. 20-1682 is our etching primer part number. After that, you can topcoat with any spray paint color of your choice.

You’ll likely need the PBE self-etch primer first. #20-1681. After that, I’d direct you to CA16-55 alumi-blast. It’s the better option as it doesn’t burnish.

Never used your product. I run a transmission shop we rebuild transmissions stock, performance and off road. I need a paint that is very durable and wont scratch off while installing it into vehicles and last through punishment. Rustoleum and Krylon just doesn’t hold up like I want. Will yours? and what do you recommend I go with 620-1411 Seymour MRO Industrial High-Solids Spray Paint, Aluminum or 620-1436 Seymour MRO Industrial High-Solids Spray Paint ?

Definitely go with the 620-1436 as the first choice. If you need a silver/aluminum, EN-71 dull aluminum would be the most durable choice.

I have a car trailer that was powder coated black but no primer to begin with. The paint is starting to flake off in big pieces and also spots of rust forming. Do I need to prime it before I spray your paint on my trailer? Can I paint over original powder coat without sanding it?

If the powder coating is chipping away, it is recommended that all the paint should be sanded away, as coating over it will not improve its adhesion to the metal. For the rust, you can either use Seymour’s rust converter SKU:16-45 or sand the areas away until bare metal is exposed. We would also recommend using a self-etching primer in either gray (SKU:20-1681) or black (SKU:20-1682) on all surfaces. Once this coating is dry, you can then apply the paint you want.
